Carnival Hearts & Arts Parade, past and present

The very first Carnival Hearts & Arts Parade was a great success and a proud accomplishment for organizers and participants. In the beautiful shade of Upper City Park, artists, musicians, and their supporters gathered for the day. People laid on blankets around the tiny community of craft and art vendor tables, music continually flowed from the giant park shelter, kids spray painted t-shirts, attendees munched on treats from the Java House and fresh fruit from New Pioneer Co-op and the burgers coming off the grill seemed unending. Even the doggies and babies mingled in the grass on this lovely spring day. There were feats of skill and delightful talent by members of Cirque Stupendo and a lovely MC job done by Tough Kookie of Les Dames du Burlesque. I needn't say more to portray what a fantastic idea this whole thing turned out to be. Take a look for youself.

Our second event is scheduled for Sunday September 12th, from 1-6:30 pm at Happy Hollow Park (Brown Street & Lucas Street). In addition to the 10 great musical acts and a whole bunch of great crafters and artists displaying their work, there will be zombies, body painting, poetry and plenty of space for you to throw down a huge blanket and picnic til your heart's content. Let's squeeze every last drop from the end of this Iowa City summer. All of this is free, inclusive and open to the public. Bring your grandma, your kids or your friendly pooch-pal and spend an amazing day with us.
