We're Pleased to Announce: Nemesis Tattoo Raffle

What would Carnival Hearts & Arts Parade be without the promise of art you can wear on your skin forever and ever? Did your interest just peak? Of course it did. tattoooooo<3<3: for you?

I want to take an opportunity to give some mad props to Nemesis Tattoo for making a generous donation to our little shin-dig on the 21st. There are few things better than art, unless it's permanent art that you take everywhere you go. We're super excited to announce that we'll be giving away a secret number of gift certificates to Nemesis.

If you wanna win some ink from the talented and super lovely folks at Nemesis, you gotta show up to the event on Saturday, May 21st and buy a raffle ticket. :) Tickets will be $5 each and all money will go back into making this and future Carnival Hearts and Arts Parade events happen.

*You must be present to win - so bring a friend, a picnic blanket, some samiches and stick with us for the long haul... ;)

Also check out some photos I took at Nemesis here: such a rad shop....

Come Out, Come Out, Where Ever You Are.....

I know you can't walk down the block in this town without tripping over some amazingly creative person. So let's see all of you get out of those winter coats and get involved with the next Carnival Hearts and Arts Parade.

                                 Saturday, May 21st :::: 2-8pm.
                                        Happy Hollow Park

Picture it: You're sitting under a shady tree in the park. Your work sparkles in the May sunlight. Someone compliments your work. You smile. Someone hands you some cash. You smile bigger and hand them your work. Then you hear the band start up as someone hands you a cupcake. You know you want this to be your Saturday afternoon.

We want you closeted and shy artists to be proud and join our little community in Happy Hollow Park
If you've never displayed or sold your art work, you belong in the circle of vendors. If you've sold a million pieces all over the place, you need to put your toes in the grass with us. If you fall somewhere in between, you probably were with us once before and should do it again.

Email us, look at our last few blog posts for details. make a little time. have a great afternoon.

Show Photos: Nov 13, 2010: Olivia Rose Muzzy, Alex Body & Stephanie Rearick at The Mill!

Though it's been over a month since we announced this lovely show, it's always better late than never ever....to show you photos, that is.

Olivia Rose Muzzy and her magical stand-up bass started off the night with haunting melodies looped into a trancing web. She was followed by the ‘genre-bending” experimental songs of Stephanie Rearick, straight out of the lovely city of Madison, and the night was closed out by one of my favorites, Alex Body, whose industrial beats and eerie vocals get me to dance in my seat every time.

NOV 13, 2010: Olivia Rose Muzzy, Alex Body & Stephanie Rearick at The Mill!

CARNIVAL HEARTS & ARTS COLLECTIVE PRESENTS:

Two of our local loves:

Olivia Rose Muzzy
(who we haven't heard perform around here since our Carnival Hearts & Arts Parade on Sept 12th)
&
Alex Body (it doesn't matter how often this gentledude plays, his music is so super engaging and he will be generously running sound at this show, too)
w/
totally kick-ass female performer from Madison, Stephanie Rearick!

This will be an evening of solid, intimate & sincere music-making not to be missed, no matter what kind of music you're into.
...
$6 doors at 9 pm, music at 9:30

http://stephanierearick.com/?id=index

"You hear intimate confessions that balance winsome and anguished singing in an ongoing dialogue with her keyboard, which alternates rock 'n' roll drive, boogie-woogie bounce and a dark severity that recalls classical etudes and the brooding fire of avant-garde jazz master Cecil Taylor. ...Rearick's balance of "happy accidents" and deliberate form shows artistic maturity, even as she grows increasingly expressive. She has shorn some precious techno-baroque effects and cranked up emotional resonance. Her protective weapon is music, loaded with creative energy, vision and hope."

- Capital Times album review

Thanks to Andre Perry, who introduced me to Stephanie back in 2007 during a Lonelyhearts/Skursula mini-tour, I've had the honor of playing with Stephanie twice in Madison at her amazing cafe & venue, Mother Fool's Coffeehouse.  Not only is she an outstanding musician, but a super rad lady to talk to--so come out on Saturday and meet this stunning human being.  You won't regret it.  ---skye
